Ramon van Merkenstein is a Brussels based bass player, who is originally from The Netherlands. As a teenager, he picked up the electric bass to play in local rock and metal bands. But very soon he discovered the world of jazz music, and he decided to make the acoustic bass his main instrument. His first teachers were Simone Croes, Cord Heineking, Arnold Dooyeweerd and Jean-Louis Rassinfosse. In 2011 he entered in the Royal Conservatory of Brussels where he had lessons with Bart De Nolf and Christophe Wallemme. In the past he has played with Big Band Utrecht, Mickey Boccar Trio and the Christian Klinkenberg Orchestra. He also has his own group Momentum Sextet, for which he arranges and composes.
